And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
— Romans 8:28
The promise of “all things” working together for good in your life doesn’t mean you can expect to get whatever you want just because you say you believe in God. Those who believe in God pursue His desires—that which He declares good. It’s your obedience to God’s word that makes you a recipient of His blessing, of the good things He ushers into your life.
It’s popular to believe happiness is found in doing whatever one wants. This lie has wrecked many lives beyond words. It’s not your purpose to create your own destiny, but to make choices which fall in line with God’s will. There is no happiness outside of God, but only a fading illusion which leaves people feeling hopeless and empty inside.
The narrow path isn’t easy, but it is the most fulfilling, and the only way leading to life. There is no promise of a comfortable life in a sinful world. There will be times when you feel like giving up, times when it seems like nobody cares, times when you feel alone in this world.
What should you do when such negative thoughts begin to swell in your mind?
Return to this promise and be reminded of God’s power to change your circumstances, and of His great love for your soul.
Yes, God cares about your future, and loves you beyond measure. As long as you continue to love Him with all your heart, you can be confident knowing that, no matter what you are going through, all things will work together for good.
